FAST REVIEW: FoTB (conference official app, hard deadline)
This never got rejected … but the story behind the Flash on the Beach app (for the 2009 conference) is useful background to another app which was recently rejected:
a nasty bug was recording the location as being in the middle of Brighton no matter where you were on the planet. So you and all your friends would be in the same place, effectively rendering this extremely cool feature completely useless.
…
[we] sent an email pleading our case to the Apple App Review Team™ who out of the goodness of their hearts responded with:
“Thank you for contacting the iPhone Developer Program regarding expediting the review of Flash on the Beach ‘09. We have made a one-time exception and have completed the review of this critical update.”
This is for a free app that was produced specifically to allow the attendees at the conference to find and network with each other. Without the single, quick, fix, the app was largely emasculated – none of the location-based features would work. This matters a lot for a large conference like FoTB, based in a convoluted city like Brighton with so much going on in so many places.
(PS: if you’re based in Brighton, UK (where FoTB takes place each year), check out the Brighton iPhone Creators group – we meet up for 2-3 free talks once a month in the city centre)
