WITHDRAWN: AppsFire (for 6 weeks in submission)

Last autumn (2009) there was a new wave in “latest big money-making startups” on iPhone: app-recommendation apps. One of the leading apps – AppsFire – has just given up on Apple’s approval process, and pulled their live app from the store:

[Apple:] We’re pulling Appsfire v1.0 so that you don’t have to.

We have a new tag – WITHDRAWN – for when a developer gives up on the Apple Approval Process.

UPDATE: since writing this post, there’s been a bunch of commentary suggesting this was just a marketing gimmick. That’s possible, and probably partially true, but I don’t believe it’s the core reason. Seriously, for an app-recommendation service to announce it’s LEAVING the app store is NOT a “good thing” for their own business. Such an announcement appeals to developers (maybe) but their cash comes from consumers, and consumer eyeballs, not developers.
